McNamara will on Tuesday unveil a 19 or 20-man squad for the annual mid-season clash with the cream of Super League-based Antipodeans at Warrington on Friday week, and Sinfield is expected to be confirmed as captain and stand-off.
“I’ll await a phone call like everybody else. Fingers crossed, I’ll be involved,” he said. “It’s an exciting time for England rugby and there’s obviously a huge challenge against the Exiles.”
Former England coach John Kear has called on McNamara to use the mid-season fixture as an experiment to look at in-form players from outside his current squad like Huddersfield stand-off Danny Brough and Hull pair Tom Lineham and Ben Crooks.
But McNamara looks certain to name his strongest available team from within his current squad and Sinfield, who is set to captain England in the end-of-year World Cup, backs his policy.
“I can certainly see the benefits of having an experimental line-up but I’m not sure about in World Cup year,” added Sinfield, who was speaking at Headingley at the launch of Rugby League Cares.
“The camps we’ve had have been brilliant but there is no better test to see where we’re at as a team than to get out and play. The fixture against the Exiles is huge.”
