NOTTINGHAM Rugbyâs season took another turn for the worse as they were thrashed 51-7 by a rampant Rotherham Titans at Meadow Lane.
The visitors ran riot in the first half to score four tries while they added another four in the second against a demoralised home side.
It was a comprehensive, impressive victory for the Titans who dominated from the outset and never looked in any real danger, despite the home side levelling matters inside the first few minutes.
Proceedings didnât start well for the Greens in the early afternoon sunshine.
With barely a minute on the clock, after a quick offload on halfway, left wing, Curtis Wilson broke away down the right to run free and score.
Juan Pablo Socino cleared the conversion to make it 7-0 after just two minutes.
A nightmare start for the home side, but they responded well to that early setback, albeit only briefly.
The fast paced opening continued with the Greens equalising almost immediately. After kicking for touch with a penalty deep in Titans territory, Nottingham drove forward and captain Brent Wilson forced himself over the line much to the relief, and delight, of the crowd.
Matthew Jarvis added the extras to level it up at 7-7 with just six minutes on the clock.
That joy was short-lived, however, as the visitors were back in front just minutes later when Socino struck over with a straightforward penalty to make it 10-7.
Rotherham extended their lead and it was nothing more than their enthusiastic play merited.
Once again with missed tackles from the Greens backs, Sean Scanlon was able to find his way through and run clear for the try.
Socino made no mistake to heap further misery on a deflated Green and Whites.
Nottingham were caught out again moments later as flanker Ali Birch powered his way past a static defence to send Rotherham off and into the distance as things went from bad to worse for the Greens.
Despite Socino failing the conversion, Martin Haagâs men were left with a mountain to climb at 22-7 down with only 17 minutes gone and against a Rotherham side who were rampant.
On the stroke of half-time, Wilson grabbed his second try of the half after more good play that Nottingham just couldnât withstand.
Socino had a straightforward kick to give Rotherham a 29-7 lead.
During the interval, the guest band played a rendition of the âGreat Escapeâ and that was exactly what the second half would have been had the Greens pulled it off, but any minute hope that may have happened was dashed barely two minutes into the second period.
Before the half-time pint was barely past the head, Dallan Murphy waltzed in to add a fifth try.
The reliable Socino cleared the posts to make it 36-7. It was a case of damage limitation from here on.
Wilson added his hat-trick try in the 51st minute as once again, Nottinghamâs backs just couldnât cope with the pace and tenacity of the Rotherham forwards and in fairness, nothing more than the Titans deserved, it was 41-7.
With the half meandering onwards towards an inevitable conclusion, and with the feeling of a training session, Titans scored their seventh try as Scanlon scored his second of the game to make it 46-7.
The visiting supporters were treated to another score when Michael Keating joined the party to put the ball down, unchallenged.
It was another disaster for Nottingham, now 51-7 behind.
That proved to be the end of the scoring, thankfully for Haagâs men, who now have to regroup ahead of a trip to the Cornish Pirates.
