Ireland v Italy (Olympic Stadium, October 4)
These two sides know each other well from their annual encounters in the Six
Nations. Italy secured a rare victory in Rome last year and skipper Sergio
Parisse will be hoping to cause another upset in what could be his last
Rugby World Cup. It promises to be the most competitive of the Olympic
Stadiumâs five matches.
South Africa v USA (Olympic Stadium, October 7)
There is a famous YouTube video from when these sides met in 2007. It involves
an unknown American, Takudzwa Ngwenya, beating legendary Springboks winger
Bryan Habana in a foot race to score the try of the tournament. What do
America have up their sleeves this time? They have Saracensâ flying wing
Chris Wyles for starters.
Namibia v Georgia (Sandy Park, October 7)
Can Namibia secure their first-ever victory at a Rugby World Cup? This is
their chance. The talismanic Jacques Burger, the all-action and
straggly-haired Saracens flanker who was named in the top five players of
the 2011 tournament, will be desperate to end his countryâs run of 15
straight defeats.
New Zealand v Tonga (St Jamesâ Park, October 9)
The rivalry between the All Blacks and their Pacific island cousins runs deep.
New Zealand are known for poaching the hottest young talent, Charles Piutau
being the latest player of Tongan descent to pull on the black jersey, so
expect him to be a marked man.
