Evans, 29, who is now working as a model and formerly dated Kelly Brook and 90210 star Jessica Lowndes, will be showing off his footwork in the autumn.
He said: “I’m so happy to be doing the show, I cannot wait to get started.
“I’m really looking forward to my Strictly makeover – bring on Strictly and bring on the spandex.â€
Thom announced his new venture in a video on his Instagram account, which saw him catch a rugby ball before throwing it away in disgust only to be thrilled to land a glitterball instead.
Before turning to modelling, Thom enjoyed a successful rugby career, and played 10 times for Scotland’s national team.
He also played for Glasgow Warriors and London Wasps.
But the Zimbabwe-born athlete had to retire from rugby aged 24 after suffering a serious neck injury during a match between Scotland and Wales in the Six Nations tournament.
