OLD Patesians recorded their second victory in the West of England division demolishing Swindon St George at Everest Road.

Though the high scores would not have pleased either defence coach as Pats bid to defend their 2013 crown, the side dominated with 13 tries.

This result meant Old Pats remained at the top of the league, tied on points with Gloucestershire Warriors but ahead on points difference, after a 40-6 win over Oxford Cavaliers last weekend.

There was a hat-trick for James Fisher, two apiece from Jonny Loudon and Lawrence Sherry and one each for Paul Bennett, Ed Tickle, James King, Hadyn Jennings and Carlo Colucci.

Colucci kicked seven goals and Darren Moore kicked two. Coach Giles Potter said: “The game reflected early season in that competitive conditions created mistakes.

“We are encouraging our players to make decisions and play exciting rugby.

“We have no doubt that as the season progresses we are only going to get better and more exciting”

Old Pats Under-16s also beat Bristol Sonics Under-16s 48-14.

Mac Dale and Arthur Mills both crossed for two tries and there were also tries for Mike Boyd, Sam Fraser, Cameron Sanders, Pete Carter and Jake Hughes.

Matt Head added six conversions.

Junior coach Mike Hughes was encouraged by the number of boys playing rugby league in the south west.

He said: “ It was a good, hard game played in a fantastic spirit and great credit is due to both sides.

“From our point of view it was a very promising start to the season and encouraging to see lots of the things we’ve looked at in training coming to fruition in a match.”

Pats seniors face Somerset Vikings on Saturday at home (2.30pm).

The Vikings are the last team to defeat Pats, beating them 36-28 last season.

Pats league side train on Wednesdays at 6.15pm at Everest Road and new players are always welcome.
