The Melbourne Rebels and the Sharks have only played each other twice since the Melbourne franchise joined Super Rugby in 2011.

Out of the two matches between the Rebels and the Sharks the Sharks have won two which gives the Sharks a record of winning 100% of their matches against the Rebels.

The Rebels hosted the first match between the teams and the Sharks edged the home side 32-34.

In the second match between the teams the Sharks were at home and they hammered the Rebels 7-64 in Durban – a week after losing heavily to the Brumbies.

That 7-64 victory last year remains the Sharks biggest ever victory in Super Rugby. The Rebels of 2014 are a different side to the one they played in 2013.

The 2014 Rebels have a tackling success rate of 89%, the men from Melbourne top the charts in this area of play. The Cell C Sharks have been less successful in that regard (85%), but their general defence is still the best in the competition, despite leaking four tries against the Highlanders last week.

The Rebels have played 4 matches at home in 2014 and they have won 3 including their last two matches. Their one loss was to the Crusaders and they beat the Force, Brumbies and Cheetahs.

The Sharks in comparison have played two matches away from home and they have won one and lost one.

The stats suggest that the Rebels will be the stronger team at home but as the Sharks lost to the Highlanders last week they will have been given a scare.
