Rugby Union: England boss Stuart Lancaster is reconsidering his World Cup ...

A narrow defeat away against France was followed by a 20-0 win in Scotland, despite the absence of players such as Manu Tuilagi, Ben Foden and Marland Yarde.

The young newcomers, including Luther Burrell and Jack Nowell, have largely impressed so far in international action.

And Lancaster says he’s having to think hard about who might get picked for the World Cup tournament on home soil next year.

“We had a training session the other day where it was 15 on 15 and I looked at the team that were starting against Scotland and I looked at the second XV that were training against them and it was pretty good team,” the England head coach said.

“I expect the core of 35-40 players to remain the same, but as for who is in the 40 and who is in the starting XV – a World Cup is not won by 15.

“Only three players in New Zealand’s 2011 team played all seven games.

“I have an evolving spreadsheet that changes. It’s in my mind as well.”
