Gloucester Rugby: Davies Junior happy in Wales

SAM Davies insists his future remains with the Ospreys despite interest from Gloucester.

The IRB Junior World Player of the Year has been linked with a move to the Cherry and Whites to join his father, Nigel Davies.

At a Fans Forum on Wednesday night the Gloucester director of rugby joked that he had already attempted to lure his son to Kingsholm.

But Davies Junior has another season remaining on his contract at the Liberty Stadium and he is more than happy in Wales.

Davies, 20, said: “I’d like to think my future is in Wales.

“There’s a lot of things up in the air at the moment and the players are not sure what’s going on, but I’d like to think there’s a good future here and the regions and WRU can sort something out and keep everyone happy and everyone in Wales.

“All my mates are at home, my Mum is living at home – it’s somewhere I’ve grown up and it would be hard to move away.

“It’s definitely somewhere I’d like to stay. It’s where I’ve been brought up and it’s where all my mates are.”

Davies has featured in 11 matches for the Swansea-based outfit this season and has been utilised at his favoured fly-half position and the more unfamiliar role of full-back.

But he is enjoying the experience and is happy to bide his time as he masters his trade.

He added: “I’m just taking it game by game with the Ospreys. It’s just a case of trying to play well and enjoy my rugby. I’m only 20, so there’s no rush.

“I’m enjoying the season. I’m picking up some game-time. I didn’t get as much as I would have liked last year, but it’s good to be playing now and picking up experience.

“Coming back from the World Cup I was looking to get more involved. I was with Swansea at the start of the season, but I’ve had a few games for the Ospreys and now it’s a case of trying to stay in the team.

“I’m enjoying full-back. It’s a different from 10 in some aspects, so in that respect it’s given me a fresh perspective on the game.

“I’m enjoying being at the back. There’s a lot more time to make decisions and kick, but fly-half is where I have played most of my life. I am learning different parts of the game at full-back which will help my game at 10.”
