Cheer up! Wigan boss Shaun Wane urges Rugby League fans to forget Sam ...

“If we beat them, it will be huge. The game is on page after page of every paper here in Australia so we know how big it is.

“But we are in good shape and everything has gone to plan in training. It is going to be an outstanding game.”

Wane won the man-of-the-match award when Wigan beat Manly 8-2 at Central Park in 1987 and wants his players to taste similar glory.

He said: “Of all the games I played in, and all the cups I won, that Manly game is the one I’m remembered for most.

“That’s the game that fans always mention and I’m hoping that my players will be saying the same thing in 30 years.”

Captain Sean O’Loughlin hasn’t trained properly for two weeks, with a thigh problem. Wane said: “He’s a bit sore but he’s a tough character.”
