A womenâs rugby team in Wales has been thrown into crisis â after a third of the squad fell pregnant.
Kidwelly ladiesâ rugby club, based near Llanelli in west Wales, has put out an urgent call for new players after the shock news emerged.
The team is already down on numbers with several players retiring from the game over the summer, but Kidwelly now face a battle to put together a team.
All of those who announced their pregnancies have now quit the club to focus on mother hood, and manager Kim Hulance has warned the team could go out of business unless new players sign up soon.
âWe have had a team going for a couple of years and found we have lost a lot of ladies recently,â she said.
âIt has meant we have had to pull out of some of the competitions and havenât fulfilled some fixtures last year.
âWe had a large number of girls getting pregnant unfortunately â five, a third of the team, and we have had a few who have retired, while some did not like all the travelling that was involved.
âI do not think people would mind so much if it was just the home games. We had nine players going to a league game last season, which is a very low number.â
Kidwelly currently compete in the Wales Rugby Union Ladiesâ Division 3 south.
