O’Brien was knocked out cold in the build up to Saints’ second try in the first half of the Super League clash at Stade Gilbert Brutus, which the visitors won 26-6, after he was taken out by New Zealander Taia in an off-the-ball challenge.
St Helens boss Nathan Brown described the tackle as “disgraceful” and Taia now faces a suspension of two to three games.
Taia’s Catalan team-mate Mickael Simon and Saints’ Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook have both been charged with Grade A punching offences from the same game while Hull KR’s Lincoln Withers has been charged with a Grade B dangerous contact on Wigan full-back Ryan Hampshire.
All four players have until 11.00am on Tuesday, August 6 to submit Early Guilty Pleas in relation to the offences.
