Rugby hunk sets up fake photo shoot for girlfriend to entice her to romantic ...

Little did she know that it was a carefully-crafted plan by her

boyfriend to entice her to a romantic location without her

suspecting so that he could propose — or that their engagement

would become a YouTube hit.

Thumbs up: Garth prepares his surprise

Garth Chamberlain, a former Wasps rugby player, went

to extraordinary lengths planning his proposal to the Swedish-born

model, 30, to ensure that she would not have a clue.

Starting in March, he worked with her agency to “book” her onto

a fake job for a start-up Italian hat company for a shoot in

Favigana, near Sicily, on the same weekend as they were supposed to

be moving home and secretly flew to Sweden to ask her father’s

permission.

Tears: Tess cries as she gets her wedding proposal

When she arrived at the hotel where she thought she

was meeting the crew for the shoot, she was instead handed an iPad

playing a video that Mr Chamberlain, 28, had made for her.

Starting with the words “Hi beautiful” the video shows him

tracing where they met in Wandsworth and pictures from their time

together so far before going on to track his movements since March

with his visit to Sweden, secret planning and travelling to Italy

before emerging from behind a wall.

Romance: Garth gets down on one knee

Afterwards — Miss Montgomery said “yes” — they made

an edited version of the video entitled What Really Happened In

Italy, which tells the story of their engagement and her surprised

and tearful reaction, to show their friends and family which she

posted on her blog.

In only two days it had been watched by more than 13,000 people

and they received congratulations from around the world. The

couple, who have been together for three years and live in Clapham

North, plan to get married on New Year’s Eve 2014 in Zimbabwe,

where Mr Chamberlain is from. He works as a project manager for a

construction company and said he had wanted to make a gesture that

would “last forever for both of us”.

Miss Montgomery said: “It was quite a shock. I wasn’t expecting

it for one second. When I saw the video I didn’t realise it was a

proposal until he went to see my dad but I didn’t think in my

wildest dreams he was there. It’s so romantic.”
