Double blow for Reds

The Queensland Reds have suffered a big blow ahead of Saturday night’s clash against the Waratahs, with news that veteran duo James Horwill and Will Genia will miss the match through injury.

Horwill (calf) and Genia (knee) returned to Queensland having picked up injuries while representing the Wallabies against the British and Irish Lions and won’t be risked against the Waratahs.

However, both players are expected to be fit for the first week of the Super Rugby finals later this month.

“I feel good, obviously it’d be better not to have a calf injury, but I was hoping to play this week,” Horwill said.

“Playing against NSW for Queensland, it’s a big deal.

“It’s disappointing but the plan is to be right next week to take on whoever we face in the finals.”

The Reds are currently fifth and guaranteed to feature in the post-season, but can still finish as high as fourth and host a match in the opening week of the finals.
