Rugby Union: Seven Academy players given pre-season chance with senior ...

Seven members of the Academy have been invited to train with the senior Bedford Blues squad during pre-season.

Prop Matt Collins, back row Joe Bercis, fly-half Joe Tarrant, centre Shaq Myers and wingers/full-backs Mike Diponio, Chris Lord and Mike Stanway will all link up with Mike Rayer’s men for phase one of the preparations ahead of the new campaign.

In addition two former Academy players, wing Dean Adamson and full-back Elliott Clement-Hill, have been invited to train with the Blues as well after turning out for Ampthill last season.

“The players have worked hard all season and deserve this opportunity,” said Blues Academy Director Denis Ormesher.

“I am confident that all of them will do well and that they will push some of the seniors in training.

“They all have a chance to impress Mike Rayer over the summer. Some of them may impress enough to feature in the Blues squad this season. All of them will benefit from the experience.

“Dean and Elliott have done well at Ampthill over the last year, scoring over 400 points between them, helping Ampthill to win promotion to National Two. “Training with the Blues will allow us to monitor how well they have developed.

“If a player is good enough, and works hard enough, they will get a chance at the Blues.”
