RUNNERS are limbering up ahead of an annual charity race in memory of a former England rugby player.
Andy Ripley won 24 rugby union caps for England between 1972 and 1976, and was a keen supporter of East Grinstead and District Athletic Club.
The Dormansland resident was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005, but remained good-humoured and became an ambassador for Prostate Cancer UK prior to his death in June 2010.
Each year since then, a 10k run has been organised in the town to raise money for charity in his memory.
This year’s run begins at Imberhorne School in Imberhorne Lane on Sunday, September 21 from 10am.
Participants will follow footpaths and Worth Way to the turn point in Crawley Down, before returning to East Grinstead station. From there, the course follows local roads to the finish at Imberhorne Lane recreation ground.
Charities to benefit from the fundraiser are Prostate Cancer UK and Wooden Spoon.
