Ireland Ladies ease into semi-finals of rugby World Cup

Still buoyed from the shock win over the All Blacks, Ireland’s ladies have reached the semi-finals of the Ladies Rugby World Cup.

The team which includes two Donegal players, beat Kazakhstan 40-5 in their final pool game to reach the last four for the first time ever.

They led 14-5 at half-time in Marcoussis through tries by debutant Sharon Lynch and fly-half Tania Rosser.

Four more tries in the final quarter saw Ireland ease their way into the semi-finals.

The first was a penalty try and then back rowers Siobhan Fleming and Lynch scored to make it three tries in a six-minute spell.

Ireland rested most of the players after the win over New Zealand, though both Donegal women Larissa Muldoon and Nora Stapleton, from Fahan, both played in the victory over Kazakhstan.

Ireland will play their semi-final on Wednesday. Sadly, City of Derry player, Stacey-Lee Kennedy missed out on the tournament through injury.

Winger Nora Stapleton is seen as a key player on the Ireland team.

A promotional officer for the GAA, she attended UCD and plays her club rugby for Old Belvedere RFC.
