ASHBOURNE Under-15s are the NLD Shield champions.
They recovered from an early setback to beat hosts Lincoln 31-22 to claim the silverware.
Their success didn’t look likely in the first 10 minutes, however, as Lincoln looked to make home advantage count in the early stages.
Nerves seemed to get the better of the visitors and some loose play resulted in two quick tries for the speedy Lincoln backs.
Eventually, Ashbourne found their feet and began to establish their powerful running game before getting on the scoreboard.
Joe Bateman touched down, crossing over in the corner for an unconverted try.
And Ashbourne remained in control for the rest of the first half, establishing a 12-10 lead after a good move finished with Joe Davy scoring a try converted by Ed Groves.
Lincoln were rocking and they failed to find a way back into the contest after the break as Ashbourne went for the throat.
They were aggressive and relentless in attack, with Jack Bowden going through for two quick tries.
Ashbourne’s forwards continued to dominate, their work paying off when Will Gardner crossed over with a great interception try.
Groves kicked the two points and there was no way back for Lincoln, although they went over for a consolation score on the last play of the game, touching down with a well-worked try.
Ashbourne U15s: Gardner, Sherry, Acres, Ditchfield, Bailey, Keeling, Bowden, Bateman, Teague, Groves,Challinor, Davey, Wildegoose, Coakley, McFall, James, Foxon, Dashfield, Hodson, Leiper.
JACK Bowers, Joe Mines, Charlie Hart and Sam Sellers scored tries for Ashbourne U14s as they won both their games in a triangular tournament against Ashby and National League One tourists Wharfedale.
