Organisers of the 2015 Rugby World Cup have received more than 80 bids from facilities in over 30 English counties, including Yorkshire, and Wales to be training complexes for the 20 teams.
There will be up to 50 team bases around England and Wales for the tournament â each including an outdoor and indoor training facility, hotel, swimming pool and gym.
The bids have come in from rugby clubs, schools, colleges, universities, local authorities and established training centres, and sites visits are under way ahead of a decision next year.
England Rugby 2015 chief executive Debbie Jevans said: âTeam bases will play a pivotal role in the tournament and we are delighted to see such a strong response rate to the search and selection programme.
âWe can already see the fantastic regional engagement opportunities team bases will provide.â
Cardiffâs Millennium Stadium will host the 2014 Heineken Cup final.
The Welsh Rugby Union launched a bid to stage the showpiece event after the French Rugby Federation (FFR) withdrew Paris as the host city due to uncertainty over the availability of the Stade de France.
It means Cardiff will stage the fixture for the seventh time since the tournamentâs inception in 1996.
European Rugby Cup officials also confirmed the final of the second-tier Amlin Challenge Cup will be played at the Arms Park home of Cardiff Blues.
The Blues moved back to the Arms Park from Cardiff City Stadium last season, and are installing an artificial pitch at the ground after struggling with a boggy playing surface.
Cardiff last held the Heineken Cup final in 2011 when Leinster produced a stunning second-half fightback to sink Northampton at the Millennium Stadium.
The Welsh bid beat off competition from the Rugby Football Union and Scottish Rugby Union.
