It was a thrilling weekend of Rugby League action during Round 17 of the VB NSW Cup with five of the six games being decided by less than 10 points.
A valiant second half effort from the Windsor Wolves saw them just fall to the Cronulla Sharks, 26-24 at Henson Park. The Sharks led 20-6 at half time after Windsor errors created tries for Townsend, Politoni and Moroko. Tries to Sam Anderson, Eto Nabuli and Vaipuna Tia Kilifi saw the Wolves generate a lot of momentum during the second half, however, the table topping Sharks proved to be a bridge too far.

In the second game at Henson, a 79th minute try from fullback Henare Wells saved Newtown from being upset by Wentworthville, with the Bluebags triumphing 28-26. The Magpies dominated the first half and led 20-12 at half time. However, the Jets came out of the blocks firing in the second term and tries from Wells and Seluini saw them lead 22-20 not long after the break. Wentworthville regained the lead with another try midway through the second half, but Wellsâ third try and Rokolatiâs subsequent conversion sealed the game.

The North Sydney Bears were made to earn their two competition points after being pushed all the way by Wyong in their 26-14 win at Morry Breen Oval. Both teams scored two tries each during the first half but Northsâ more accurate kicking ensured they held a 12-10 advantage at halftime. The Bears extended their lead not long after when fullback Chris Centrone scored, however, a try to Roos winger Etu Uaisele 30 minutes from time set up a thrilling finish. Norths ultimately won the game in the last seven minutes with two quick tries to Bennett Leslie and Apisai Koroisau giving them an unassailable lead.

At Belmore the Knights notched their fifth consecutive win, beating the Bulldogs 38-20. Tries to Kevin Naiqama, Chanel Mataâutia and Adrian Davis saw the Knights lead 14-10 at halftime, and they further asserted their dominance early in the second half, extending their lead to 26-14. The Dogs managed to bridge the gap to 26-20 with a quarter of the game remaining but late tries Naiqama and Mataâuita put the result beyond doubt.

The Wests Tigers managed to hold on to seventh spot on the ladder after crushing Mounties 40-18 at Campbelltown. The Tigers won on the back of an extraordinarily dominant first half which saw them lead Mounties 30-4 after 40 minutes. Mounties played valiantly during the second half, outscoring the Tigers 14 points to 10 but were ultimately made to pay for their poor first half.

At Kogarah, the Illawarra Cutters succumbed to a late comeback from Manly to lose 26-24. The Cutters looked good early on, leading 14-0 after 15 minutes, however, a number of unforced errors allowed Manly back into the contest. The Sea Eagles rallied late in the first half and only trailed the Cutters 18-14 at the break. In a see sawing second half, Illawarra led with 10 minutes to play before a try to Manly half Dane Chisholm after a break from Clinton Gutherson sealed victory for the Sea Eagles.
