A PAIR of young rugby players from Tadley are celebrating after being selected to be part of the England under-20 squad.

Abbie Parsons and Devon Holt, who both began playing the sport at Aldermaston RFC, have both been named in England’s under-20 squad for the 2013-14 season after succeeding at trials in May.

They join former Basingstoke RFC player Fran Hall in the programme, with all three selected in the squad for the Nations Cup, which is being played in Nottingham at the moment.

Prop Parsons, who is 18 and lives in Bishopswood Road, said: “I was ecstatic when I got the email through telling me I was in the squad and being called up for the Nations Cup was the icing on the cake.

“I’m really excited. We are going to be in camp for a few weeks and it is a really good opportunity. It is my dream to play for the full England team and I am working hard to get there.”

England’s first game in the Nations Cup was on Thursday, when they lost 24-22 to South Africa.

Holt started the game, while Parsons and Hall came on as replacements, with Hall scoring a try.

Hall and Parsons started yesterday’s match against Canada, with Holt dropping to the bench, but England lost 43-15.

England’s last group game is against the USA on Wednesday, with the top two teams meeting in the final next Sunday.
