Rugby Union Stormers brush Bulls aside

The Chiefs head into the Super Rugby play-offs as the league’s top side after the Bulls were hammered by the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday night.

Gary van Aswegen kicked 15 points for the hosts as they cruised to a 30-13 success.

The Stormers were always in command, heading into the break 23-13 to the good thanks to tries from lock Eben Etzebeth and winger Bryan Habana and three penalties from van Aswegen.

The Bulls’ points came through two Morne Steyn penalties and a try from full-back Zane Kirchner, but the Pretoria club could not add to that tally and their defeat was all but ensured when centre Jean de Villiers crossed with 55 minutes gone for the Stormers.

Both the Chiefs and the Bulls will have a first-round bye in the play-offs, while the Crusaders have home advantage in the first round by virtue of their 25-17 win over the Hurricanes on Friday.

Elsewhere, the Sharks ran in 10 tries as they ended their season with a 58-13 hammering of the Southern Kings in Durban.
