Dorian West is targetting further success in the LV= Cup for Northampton Saints in the 2013-14 season, but believes they face a tough draw after the group stage line-up for the new season was confirmed on Wednesday.
The Saints were drawn in Pool Four along with London Wasps, Newcastle Falcons and Scarlets. However, due to the format of the Anglo-Welsh competition, they will play Pool One sides Gloucester, London Irish, Newport-Gwent Dragons and Saracens.
Northampton won the tournament in 2010 by beating Gloucester in the final and were runners-up to East Midlands rivals Leicester Tigers in 2012. Forwards coach West hopes they can emulate those performances again in the coming season.
âWeâve got some tough matches,â said West. âSaracens got to the semi-finals last year and Gloucester have a good record in the cup. Meanwhile the Madejski Stadium and Rodney Parade are always difficult places to play.
âBut weâve got confidence in the strength of our squad and will be aiming to do well in the LV= Cup, which is competition where weâve done well in the past few years.â
