Gallen Confident of Overcoming Injury

Inspirational NSW VB Blues Captain, Paul Gallen is confident he can overcome injury to take part in ‘the biggest game’ of his life, and lead the Blues to their first series victory in seven years.

Speaking with the media before the Blues official team photo, Gallen revealed everything was going to plan for rehabilitation of the most important foot in New South Wales.

“It’s all going to come down to how I run on Friday,” Gallen said.

“I’m being as confident as I can and doing everything I can to get it right. If I can run on Friday and do the team session on Sunday, then there will be no issues at all.”

Although Gallen has played under the cloud of injury before, even he admitted the stakes were too high for him to be anything less than 100 per cent on Wednesday night.

“This is the biggest game of my life. I’ve been in this position before and Origin gets bigger every year. No matter who you are, whether you’re a fan or a sponsor or a player – it gets bigger and better, and to be in a decider is massive.

“I can’t be 70-80%… it’s a huge game and it’s about more than me being out there.”

Despite injury threatening to rule several key players out of the decider, Gallen denied the disruptions had affected his side’s preparation and warned against people writing the Blues off.

“The talk doesn’t affect us. People wrote Queensland off after Game One… there’s so much time between games that momentum isn’t an issue. It’s all about who performs best on the night.

“They (Queensland) had the ball for 25 minutes… if we can get an even share of the ball and go set for set with them, than I know we can do more than just compete.

With tensions running high throughout the series, Gallen admitted the hatred between the two sides was a strong as ever and urged fans to get behind the Blues.

“There has always been hatred between the two sides. There’s hatred between the fans and there’s hatred between the players.

“Get out there and support us. It’s been a long time for players and fans and there’s nothing better than running out there to a sea of sky blue.”

The NSW VB Blues take on Queensland in the Holden State of Origin decider on July 17, at ANZ Stadium.

Will Gal recover in time to take his place in the side? Do our winning chances hinge on his health?
