Club wins Murrayfield posts

Now Murrayfield’s goalposts are to retire from international duty and be sent more than 250 miles away to one of Scotland’s most northernmost mainland clubs, Caithness.

The team, which competes in RBS Caledonia Regional League Division One in Thurso, won the posts in a Scottish Rugby competition.

A total of 31 clubs and schools entered the contest after the prize was offered for those who could say in 50 words or fewer why the posts would help sustain the nation’s rugby heritage.

Caithness club secretary Shona Kirk wrote a ditty that ended: “To get the posts from that hallowed ground would make us the happiest club around!”

Chairman of the judges, Chris Paterson, who is Scotland’s most capped rugby player, praised the imagination of entries.
