Scotland"s Ryan Grant overlooked as the Lions call up Alex Corbisiero

Scotland prop Ryan Grant has been overlooked by the British and Irish Lions after the squad called for reinforcement.

Warren Gatland faces losing Irish loosehead Cian Healy through injury and a possible suspension for biting during the 69-17 victory over Western Force.

However Scotland and Glasgow Warriors in-form loosehead specialist Grant has been snubbed in favour of England’s Alex Corbisiero, who was sidelined between January and April with a knee injury.

Grant, 27, made more tackles than any other front row in the 2013 Six Nations Championship and was ranked fifth overall in stops, making 52.

But it is Corbisiero is jetting to Australia to join up with the Lions from England’s current tour base in Argentina.

The 24-year-old, who is moving clubs from London Irish to Northampton this summer, said he was going to push a place in the test side.

He said: “I am going there to be first choice and to put my hand up.

“It’s going to be a big challenge and there are so many quality players out there. Just to go out there is amazing, but once I’m out there I want to get in the test team.

“I am really excited. I feel very proud to be included and involved in something as prestigious as the Lions.”
