Despite 26 caps for his country, Wilson has made only four starts since making his debut in 2009 â mainly because of the rise of Lions prop Dan Cole, who has made the tighthead berth his own.
The 28-year-old does not hide his frustration and admits he must prove that he can hold down a starting place, beginning with the challenge of Argentina here on Saturday.
âIt has been a bit frustrating being on the bench,â said Wilson. âIâd like to play a bit more or even a bit more time off the bench would be nice.
âHopefully I can give some confidence here to the coaches selecting me andthey can put me on for longer so I get a few more starts.
âI have won 26 caps now and only made four starts. Although I am grateful for the caps, I want to play more and be around for the 2015 World Cup.
âDan Cole is a good player. He is very reliable and he doesnât get injured. He has an all-round game and it helps that he plays for Leicester, who win week in, week out.
âSometimes it is frustrating but what can you do? The coaches pick the side to win the game and it is their opinions that count.
âI had a few injuries and there have been a few ups and downs in my displays. I have to try to get that consistency of performance and keep it high.â
As the sole survivor in this touring party from Englandâs last tour to Argentina in 2009, Wilson knows exactly how important the scrum is to the hostsâ psyche.
âTheir passion is the scrum,â said Wilson. âIf you give them an inch they will take a mile and we canât let that happen.
âTheir first port of call is to dominate us physically and, if they donât get that, then they will play.
âI will try to get everybody geed up to scrum well. If everybody is fired up before the scrum, it will go well.
âIt will be a good contest. If we are physical in the first two or three scrums and the referee thinks we have the perceived upper hand it helps us mentally, and hopefully it is a disadvantage to them.â
England head coach Stuart Lancaster will name his side to face the Pumas later today, with David Strettle likely to get the nod on the left wing over Marland Yarde and Matt Kvesic poised to make his debut at openside flanker.
