BRISTOL Rugby have confirmed that summer signing Dwayne Peel will be their first-team captain for the 2014-15 GKIPA Championship campaign.

The 32-year-old scrum-half, who recently moved to Bristol from Sale Sharks, is a vastly experienced campaigner, having won 76 caps for Wales and three for the British Irish Lions.

Mark Sorenson, who led Bristol for much of the 2013-14 season, has been appointed club captain – a position that will include the mentoring of young players.

“I’m delighted to be taking on the role of first-team captain,” said Peel. “It’s an honour to take on the role and we’re looking forward to the new season.

“We have a strong squad here and the squad is gelling quickly. We’re under no illusions about the challenge ahead but we’re excited about what is to come.”

Bristol’s opening Championship fixture, against Worcester at Ashton Gate, has been moved to Sunday, September 7 (2.40pm). The match will be shown live by Sky Sports.
