Wasps" director of rugby Dai Young says the hard work is yet to come after ...

Stade reduced the advantage when Jules Plisson knocked over a three-pointer as

Wasps were penalised, but they were lucky not to concede another try shortly

afterwards. Varndell intercepted and played out wide for Joe Simpson to run

the length of the pitch before going to ground under the posts. However, a

high tackle from Guy Thompson earlier in the move saw the try ruled out

after reference to the television match official, whose guidance led to

James Haskell and Alexandre Flanquart being sent to the sin bin for their

reaction in the deadball area.

The play then swung in Stade’s favour, with Plisson knocking over for three

points moments later to reduce the deficit to 7-6.

Andy Goode responded with an effortless penalty as half-time approached and,

thanks to some fine defending, Wasps boasted a five-point aggregate lead at

the break.

Stade went a man down after Antoine Burban was sent to the sin bin for a late

hit on Goode, and Wasps extended their lead as Thompson rounded off a fine

team move.

Goode kicked the conversion and hit a 40-metre penalty after replacement

Michael van Vuuren became the latest to be sent to the sin bin as Stade were

overcome.

Young said of his team: “We have talked a lot about composure and producing

that complete performance, but coming through days like today is probably

going to do more for the development of this team than anything else.”
