A reckless spectator vented his frustration at watching his sonâs rugby team get thrashed by tripping up a young Royston player.
The teenager was sent flying as the man deliberately stuck out his foot and tripped him up, just as he was about to score another try.
The incident took place during the Herts Shield final, which saw Royston Rugby Club U-16s beat rivals the Fullerians to a 64-5 victory.
Jamie Johnson, Royston Rugby Club President, said that the incident was âextraordinaryâ and he had never heard of anything like it happening during a game of youth rugby.
He said: âThere is now an investigation taking place within their club and we will also be putting forward our own statement,â
The trip, which was performed in front of incensed parents, was snapped by a fellow spectator and uploaded onto social media.
Jonathan Robson wrote on Twitter: âRoyston U16 won despite this idiot at Fullarians, how can somones (sic) dad do thisâ
The offending spectator was sent from the field and has since been disciplined by the Fullerians club.
Mike Musk, Fulleriansâ president, who believed the man involved may have been a parent of one of their players, called the apparent trip âdeplorableâ.
He said: âI wasnât there, but Iâve seen the photo. We have had a committee meeting since and will have further meetings,â
âThe only mitigation I can give is that it would seem that it was out of character for this person.â
The man has now been banned until at least December.
