Gavin Henson relies on goodwill to play in Wales" tour trial

Henson is among six England-based players selected for the match between Probables and Possibles at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium.

Henson in particular has voiced his eagerness to be involved in a game that could pave the way for a remarkable return to international rugby three years since winning his last cap.

However Premier Rugby rules prevent any club in the Aviva Premiership releasing players outside of the IRB Test window – which opens the following day on May 31.

Warren Gatland was unable to hold the trial that day for logistical reasons but is hoping for ‘common sense’ to prevail with all-but Premiership Final pair Saracens, who include Wales prop Rhys Gill, and George North’s Northampton having finished their season.

Ryan Jones will also remain with Bristol, competing in the Championship play-off.
