In Corbisiero’s own mind, he remains England’s No1 No1. “You have to have that self-belief as a player so that you step on the field full of confidence. Of course, if I feel 100 per cent, I know what I am capable of and I have the self-belief that I deserve to be there,” he said.
“If you’re worrying about what other people are doing in the shirt, you’re not worrying about yourself – that is the way I’ve always seen it.
“I’m going to focus on getting back to being 100 per cent, then come the autumn I’ll try to put my hand up and show the coaches that I still want to be part of the England set-up.”
He will have a chance to offer a not-so-gentle reminder tomorrow in Cardiff when he squares up to David Wilson, England’s incumbent tight-head.
“He’s always been a very good player at Test level, but this season he’s had more opportunities with Dan Cole not playing and he has really stood out,” said Corbisiero.
“I know that I’ve got my work cut out. He’s a big man but I’ll look to do what I do against him. You can’t sit on the back foot, you’ve got to go after him because he’s too good and he’ll make you pay otherwise.”
