BLETCHLEYâS 39-17 victory over Stow-on-the-Wold kept the pressure up on table-topping Aylesbury, who picked up a 43-10 success against Milton Keynes.
A penalty try gave Bletchley the lead, which was converted by Sam Levy in the 10th minute, and nine minutes later it was 12-0 when Reggie Njovana made hard yards with an excellent drive through Stowâs defence and with the ball being recycled quickly by Tom Foster, John Kirwan found himself in plenty of space to score.
Stow capitalised on a couple of Bletchley errors from the restart and in the 29th minute, they pulled a try back to make it 12-5.
But the 12-point advantage was restored when a gap on the right wing was exploited by Will Garrett to score Bletchleyâs third try of the afternoon.
Stow had the last say of the first to make it 17-12 at half time.
It only took four minutes of play in the second half for Bletchley to score their bonus point try. Simon Pitfield showed good strength to bounce a couple of defenders out the way to put the ball down over the try line.
Bletchley were on a roll and Stu Van Rooyen scored Bletchleyâs fifth try oto make it 27-12.
Stow pulled a try back out wide to make it 27-17, but after that it was all Bletchley as they closed out the game with two tries in quick succession.
Tom Grant scored in the 80th minute and Levy in the 82nd minute, with the latter converted for a full time score of 39-17.
Bletchley have two games in hand on Aylesbury, who face third placed Thatcham in their final game of the Southern Counties North season.
Milton Keynes slipped to fifth following their defeat.
The match started evenly with both sides competing for control of the game, and it was 20 minutes before Aylesbury scored an unconverted try.
City were soon back in the game with a penalty kick from Phil Powell to make it 5-3.
With just minutes to go in the first half Aylesbury scored their second try following some lapse defence from the visitors.
The second half was a much more one sided affair. The Aylesbury pack dominated the scrums, ruck and mauls, leaving the visitors with little possession.
The home team built up their score throughout the half, but Aylesbury scored three tries putting the game well out of reach of Milton Keynes.
There was a consolation for City with 15 minutes to go. A characteristic burst from Cityâs man of the match Dan Rolfe placed the ball under the posts for an easy conversion.
Meanwhile, Olney lost 27-23 to Oadby Wyggestonians in Midlands Two East (South) as they remain fifth in the league, with their last two games of the season against Leicester Forest and Leighton Buzzard.
