A Wales international rugby player has appeared in court charged with assaulting a former Miss Wales model in the Croydon home of pop star Dane Bowers.

Ian Gough is alleged to have assaulted his former partner Sophia Cahill, who is now engaged to Bowers, at the property in the Selsdon area of south Croydon on January 5.

The 37-year-old attended Croydon Magistrates’ Court yesterday after being charged with assault by beating.

He denies the charge and was bailed to appear for trial on July 29.

Gough, who has made 64 appearances for Wales, currently plays for London Irish but is set to join Newport Gwent Dragons for the 2014-15 season.
