Rugby League: Leicester Storm aiming for win over newcomer Oxford Cavaliers

After an opening game defeat to Nottingham Outlaws a fortnight ago, Dean Thomas will attempt to pick up his troops for the game against Conference South League newcomers Oxford Cavaliers at Covert Lane this afternoon (2.30).

Thomas will have a larger squad to play with as he welcomes back Mark Etherington, Frank Barlow, Lewis Flack and Tom Crawley from various injuries and commitments.

Tommi Hughes and Tom McIntosh remain on the sidelines, and look unlikely to return until after the May Bank Holiday training camp.

Club captain Greg Hurst, who scored both of Storm’s tries against the Outlaws in round one, will be looking for a better performance this week.

Hurst said: “As a team, we seem to start slow every season, but this week we need to up our game and play well as a collective rather than average individual performances.

“We have a squad of naturally talented players, but we have to start playing better as a unit if we are to win this league.”

Leicester Storm against Oxford Cavaliers is a 2.30pm kick-off at Jimmies RFC, Covert Lane, Scraptoft, LE7 9SP.
