GUANGZHOU, China – Karen Paquin scored her fourth try of the rugby women’s sevens tournament, helping Canada down England 19-10 in the Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
Canada, currently in third place in the standings behind No. 1 Australia and No. 2 New Zealand, play Australia in the Cup semi later Sunday.
Bianca Farella, and Jen Kish also scored tries for Canada. Michaela Staniford and Megan Ellery replied for England.
Farella opened the scoring for the Canadian side with her third try of the tournament â and 21st of the season â breaking through two English defenders for the points.
Despite some strong tackling from Canada in the opening half, England’s Staniford touched down to bring her team back to within two points just before the break.
A quick second half try from Kish restored Canada’s seven-point lead, but England responded with a try from Ellery and a conversion from Sarah Mckenna to make it a 12-10 game.
Canada increased its lead to 19-10 with Paquin’s try.
