Burger insists Saracens playing best rugby ahead of Clermont clash

Sarries hosted Clermont at the quarter-final stage of the Heineken Cup two years ago but had only an Owen Farrell penalty to show for their efforts as they lost 22-3 at Vicarage Road.

Burger didn’t feature in that match as he was battling back from a serious knee injury – he will however start the latest clash and insists Saracens will come out fighting.

Saracens have won their last five matches and Burger told the club’s website: “Clermont have dangerous runners, a big set piece and big occasion players.

“Since we last played them back in 2012 we have learned some valuable lessons – I feel we are playing some of our best rugby at the moment.

“We know our strengths and we work hard in every aspect of the game. We are confident but respectful of our situation and opponents. I just can’t wait to get going.”

Burger has been nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season award and starts at openside flanker with Kelly Brown playing at blindside flanker for the clash at Twickenham.

England international Billy Vunipola starts at No.8 to complete the back row and, with the team announced, Burger now cannot wait to get going at Twickenham.

“I’m feeling really good and I’m very excited to be involved” said Burger. “We have a massive desire to succeed.

“We want to lift the cup but we know that Clermont are world class and we still have loads to do to get to Cardiff.”
