Wales have been rocked by the news centre Scott Williams is out for the rest of the Six Nations with a shoulder injury.

Williams injured himself tackling Brian O’Driscoll during Saturday’s loss to Ireland and Wales have released him back to the Scarlets ahead of his shoulder operation on Thursday. Reports claim Williams is likely to be out for three months and may miss the rest of the season.

With Williams out, Wales have called up Ashley Beck for training while Jonathan Davies is still recovering from injury.

The Welsh coaching team harboured some hope Davies would be fit for their next match against France, but Warren Gatland has admitted they are still waiting on him to return to full fitness.

“He’s been re-scanned, he’s still a little bit sore,” Gatland said of Davies. “We are not too sure at the moment whether he’ll be available against France. He’s still not 100%.

“He played for the Scarlets last week and felt a little bit sore. We are trying to assess him to get up to speed in terms of lifting weights and contact.”
