The regions have also called for a public inquiry into the proposed commercial
revenues between the unions and regions, amid fears that the new ERC-run
tournament next season would leave them as the financially worst off clubs
in Europe.
They issued a joint statement on Sunday night claiming that the Scottish clubs
playing in European competitions would receive £2.45million per team
compared to £1.225million per Welsh region.
âWith the English clubs being able to negotiate TV revenues of £22million from
their domestic league, why are the unions only able to achieve revenue of
£5.5million for primary TV rights for the RaboDirect Pro12 league?â the
statement said.
Dan Biggar, the Wales fly-half, admitted that the players were âworriedâ and
âconcernedâ about the future of the Welsh game.
His national team-mate Richard Hibbard, who became the latest player to
confirm he would be playing outside Wales by joining Gloucester next season,
also complained about the lack of funding in Welsh rugby.
