Australia blow as Scott Higginbotham ruled out of Lions series

The Melbourne Rebels number eight injured his right shoulder during a Super Rugby match last weekend, and has been completely ruled out of this summer’s international battle between Australia and the British and Irish Lions.

The visitors take to the field against Australian opposition for the first time today when they meet the Western Force in Perth, with the first test set for Saturday June 22 in Queensland.

Higginbotham is the fifth regular Wallaby to be ruled out of this summer’s high-profile series, with flankers David Pocock and George Smith, hooker Tataful Polota-Nau and second-row Sitaleki Timani are already sidelined.
