Ireland captain Paul O’Connell says he’d like to play on until the 2015 World Cup if his body will allow him to.

The Ireland skipper was recently appointed as his country’s permanent skipper ahead of the recent autumn internationals but his future remains up in the air as he is still to agree a new deal with Munster.

O’Connell is widely regarded as one of the finest locks in the game but has found himself spending more and more time on the sidelines in recent years due to a long-term back injury.

The talismanic forward is still enjoying his rugby and says he would like to play in the 2015 World Cup but only if he feels physically up to the challenge.

“Hopefully [I will sign a new Munster deal]. Look my contract – I’m trying to figure out my future at the moment and it is kind of delicate. It’s not something I want to discuss,” he told Setanta Sports. “I don’t really know.

“I’d probably like to play up to the next World Cup and that season as well. I’d see where I am after that. If the body is in good shape I’d like to keep going after that. It all depends.”
